Hamblen Burial
Funeral services for Mary Hamblen, 99, a native of Brown County, were held by the Rev. Wayne Markward this morning at 11:00 a.m. at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home at Franklin. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
Mrs. Hamblen died Sunday at the Johnson County Hospital at Franklin.
Mrs. Hamblen and her husband, A. Porter Hamblen, in 1900 homesteaded in Oklahoma Territory in a covered wagon. They returned to Franklin in 1916 and bought a grocery store which they operated many years.
She was born Oct. 1, 1878, to William and Elizabeth Smith Anderson and was married Jan. 20, 1897. Her husband died in 1958.
Mrs. Hamblen is survived by a son, J.B. Hamblen of Nashville; a daughter, Mrs. Edgar Mayfield of Franklin route 3; one brother, Charles W. Anderson of Banning, Calif., five grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.

Mary Jane Hamblen dies in hospital
Mrs. Mary Jane Hamblen, 99, Franklin, died Sunday at the Johnson County Memorial Hospital in Franklin, where she had been a patient four days.
Mrs. Hamblen and her husband, A. Porter Hamblen, were married January 20, 1897. The couple traveled across the Oklahoma territory in a covered wagon and homesteaded in 1900.
They returned to Franklin in 1916 and bought the downtown Franklin grocery store owned by Henry Strickler, a veteran of the Civil War.
Born Oct. 1, 1878, in Brown County, Mrs. Hamblen was the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Smith) Anderson. She was a member of the Union Christian Church and World War I Ladies Auxiliary of Nashville.
She is survived by a son, J.B. Hamblen, Nashville, daughter Mrs. Mable Mayfield, Franklin route three; brother, Charles W. Anderson, Banning, Calif.; six grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hamblen will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home, with Rev. Wayne Markward officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Tuesday.
