FRANKLIN — J.B. “Bill” Hamblen, 91, a resident of the United Methodist Home at Franklin, died unexpectedly Friday at the home. He was a former resident of Nashville.
Hamblen graduated in 1917 from Franklin High School and in 1921 from the University of Wisconsin. He was affiliated with Chi Pi fraternity. He received a masters degree in chemical engineering in 1926 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a chemical engineer for Standard Oil of Chicago for 35 years, retiring in 1961.
He was an Army Veteran of World War I, a member of Nashville United Methodist Church, Nashville Masonic Lodge, Veterans of World War I Barracks 639, and Brown County World War I Veterans Association.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home, the Rev. Howard Allen officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery at Edinburgh.
Born Nov. 7, 1897, in Brown County, Hamblen was the son of A. Porter and Mary Jane Anderson Hamblen. He married Ivis Virginia Fateley on Nov. 6, 1927, in Johnson County. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, D.P. Hamblen of Rochester, N.Y.; two granddaughters and a great-grand- child.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mable Mayfield.
