HENNINGHAM GREER.
Out of this earthly garden God gets his richest treasures. On Aug. 21, 1897, he chose one in that of Henningham Greer, widow of the late Moses Greer, who died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. R. S. Sturgeon, of Franklin, Ind. Deceased was one of the early settlers of Johnson County. She was born in Kentucky September 3, 1820, and would have been seventy-seven years of age had she lived but one month longer. At an early age she moved with her parents to Indiana, settling near Trafalgar. She was married April 7, 1839, to David Forsythe. To this Union three children were born, who survive her, as do nine grandchildren and two brothers. She, with her husband, united with the Stotts Creek Baptist church on the third Saturday in Dec., 1842, and was baptized the next day by Elder A. B. Nay. Her husband, David Forsythe, died a few years later and on March 7, 1884, she was married to Moses C. Greer and after a union of ten years, he died, March 7, 1894. A more faithful member at Stotts Creek church could not have been found. The weather was never too warm nor too cold, pleasures never so inviting, no burden so heavy but that she could find her place at the appointed time in the church she so loved. She had been blessed with a wonderful constitution, enjoying health up until during the past year, her mind had given evidence of failure and this, coupled with her age, hastened the end that was received with regret by all who knew her. Her funeral took place from the residence of R. S. Sturgeon, Aug. 23, 1897. The funeral service was conducted by Elder P. K. Parr of Franklin, assisted by Elder J. M. Thompson of Indianapolis. Her remains rest in First Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
Mattie L. Sturgeon.
