Obituary

MRS. E. A. GREGG GEORGE
The daughter of Alpheus and Elizabeth Gregg, was born near Mt. Carmel, Franklin county, Indiana, August 4th, 1861, and died at her home in Greenwood May 1st, 1892, aged thirty years, eight months and twenty-seven days. She was married to Mr. V. D. George in Haughville, September 4th, 1889. She united with the Grace M. E. church, Indianapolis, in May 1873, when only twelve years old. This early act was indeed a prophecy of the beautiful life which followed, and the glorious sunset of the same.
Her religious character was peculiarly marked with a devotion for reading her Bible. Her convictions of truth were very positive and her fidelity to what she deemed right was as true as the needle to the pole, yet combined with this was a sweet charity for the opinions of others. She had for many weeks been confined to her room a great sufferer, but her Christian patience has shone out steadily as a beautiful star in the glory of her virtues. Her closing hours were filled with many touching incidents and sweet and tender expressions of trust and love. Loving words were spoken to her nurse, Mrs. Wallace, who attended her for ninety days and nights unceasingly; also to her physician, and to her host of friends she sent this message: “Tell them to love Jesus.”
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. D. A. Robertson in the M. E. church of Greenwood, assisted by Rev. Stockberger of Haughville, who preached an appropriate sermon to a large congregation. The aged mother, who was present at the funeral, has buried six of her family in the last five years. Touching was her grief truly.
