J. M. Garner, of Bluff Creek, died Monday night at his home from old age. Mr. Garner was in his ninetieth year and had been a resident of the county for more than fifty years. His wife died a year ago, and he will be buried by her side in the Salem cemetery.

Notes: The 1900 US Federal Census for White River Township, Johnson County, Indiana records ninety-year-old Ohio-born James Garner who was born Oct 1809.
Indiana, Death Certificates, 1899–2011, near Waverly, Harrison Township, Morgan Johnson County [sic], Certificate and Record of Death, Health Officer’s Record Number 5, page 94 records that James Garner died on 24 Jul 1900 in Bluff Creek from sudden death and senility, aged ninety years. He was male, white and single [sic], born in Ohio. His father’s name was John Garner, and his mother’s maiden name Last, both born in North Carolina. O. A. Throgmorten was the informant. James was buried in Bluff Creek on 25 Jul 1900, F. E. Carlyle, undertaker.
