Death of Nancy Forsythe.

Mrs. Nancy Forsythe died at 11 o’clock Tuesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. S. Pendleton, 777 N. New Jersey street, Indianapolis. She was ninety-six years old and her death came as a result of a general breaking down of her system due to extreme old age.

Mrs. Forsythe’s maiden name was Pritchard. She was the sister of Louis Pritchard, one of the earliest pioneers of the county and was related to nearly everyone in Nineveh township either by blood or through marriage. She was born in Kentucky and came with her husband, Robert Forsythe, to this county about 1825, settling in Nineveh township. It is said she rode the entire distance on horseback carrying their first born child, J. T. Forsythe, now residing in Nineveh township, also a sack of meal and a cat.

No one among the early pioneers was held in higher esteem than “Aunt Nancy” Forsythe and the news of her death brought sincere sorrow into many households. She was the mother of eleven children, only three of whom survive her. These are J. T. Forsythe, Mrs. R. S. Pendleton and Mrs. Martha Pritchard, of Walker, Mo.

Her remains were brought to this city yesterday morning and taken to Bethel Baptist church where the funeral services were held at 10:30 o’clock a.m. conducted by Elder P. K. Parr. Burial in the old Featherngill graveyard.
