FORSYTHE, Hannibal Hamlin
Date of death: 26 Dec 1882 Forsythedale, Johnson County, Indiana
Franklin Democrat, January 1, 1883
Often has it been said, "Death loves a shining mark," but this saying was perhaps never more strikingly demonstrated than in the death of Hannibal H. Forsythe on the 26th of Dec., 1882.
Hannibal was the son of J. P. and Mary J. Forsythe, of Forsythedale, and was only nine years, six months and eleven days old, but in mind and thoughtfulness, and behavior, much beyond his year. Being the youngest of the family and a boy of so much promise he was a great favorite with all who knew him, and doted on by his sisters and brothers. Hannibal was a very affectionate boy, and even at his early age exhibited much taste and tact for business, so that he was his father’s pride and his mother’s joy. His disease was peritonitis and his sickness though very short was very severe. The little body was followed to the grave by a long procession of friends who came to mourn his loss as well as to sympathize with the grief stricken family. A brief service of song and a prayer was held by the writer, assisted by the singers of Union, and we laid the precious little body in the grave to await the coming of the Lord.
