Friday afternoon Homer, the twelve-year-old son of John Follis [sic], ate some pawpaws while in the woods assisting his father cutting wood. When quitting time came he returned home, ate a hearty supper and retired, seemingly in good health. About 2 o’clock the household was aroused by the groans of young Follis but when the parents got to his bedside he was dead. Coroner Jones was summoned and an investigation was made and it was ascertained that the boy had swallowed a number of pawpaw seeds which had lodged in the small bowels and produced congestion which soon resulted in death. The funeral took place on Monday morning from his late home.
