OBITUARY.

G. W. Eastburn was born January 28, 1828, and died Wednesday, June 26, 1895.

Mr. Eastburn was an old and highly respected citizen of the county and had lived in Clark township every year of his life excepting one or two, and during that long time endeared himself to the people by his honest and correct life and by his many good qualities as a citizen. He lays down life’s labors with the well earned respect and love of the whole neighborhood, with not an enemy in the world, and everybody speaking in his praise.

He united with the Disciples of Christ at the age of 21 and was an earnest and constant follower until the day of his death. His membership was devoted to the Rocklane Christian church. He was not only a professed Christian, but a practical one, taking his religion with him in his every day work.

To us the best test of the Christian religion is to see one who has given their whole life in the service of God call his family and friends about him and point the way to the living and to give testimony of the love of the Savior and sure hope at last. It is hard to say goodbye. It is hard to believe that we have seen the last of our dear brother on earth. It will be a long time before it will seem true that this break has been made in our social circle. Shall not our hearts of love hold close to him in memory in the future as well as in the past? Shall we allow our hearts to be broken? We will sorrow, we will grieve, but not beyond measure. We will hold our hands across that dividing line and if we cannot see beyond it we know that he is there and that his hand reaches out to us and that he holds our love as we hold his love, and in the love of God and the hope of the world to come we will walk with him side by side here and side by side in the eternity of love.

Mr. Eastburn leaves a wife to mourn his sad loss, and four children namely: Mollie, Joseph, Emma and William, who, while they mourn the death of a husband and father, can look back with pride to the bright example as a man, citizen and Christian he has left them.

The funeral services were held at the Rocklane M. E. church, on Friday and were conducted by Rev. Charles Stevens, who, in a sermon full of hope and consolation, paid the last sad tribute of respect to the memory of a good man, whose life work was ended. The remains were interred at the M. E. cemetery.
