OBITUARY.

In writing a few words relative to the life and death of a noble Christian mother, grand and great grandmother we do so with love and great respect. Going back in our memories fifty years and as we think of Aunt Nancy the lives and faces of so many arise and in a sense speak to us in a thousand ways, and many heart aches and pleasures come and go. Father, mother, brother, sisters and children are gone. Grandfathers, grandmothers, uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, friends and neighbors have appeared and gone down in death. The personage of each speaks to us and we remember them, and amid it all life seems as a strange existence which must terminate in death, and then the judgment time and death, as we realize, move on and we hasten to meet those gone before.

Nancy Johnson Dungan was born in Washington County, Virginia, April 24, 1804, was married to Charles G. Dungan in 1820 and with her family removed to Johnson County, Indiana, in 1833, where she has ever since resided. She was converted to the Christian religion under the preaching of Rev. William Lane in 1828, and all these years kept the faith and fought a good fight. Aunt Nancy was the last to pass away of the charter members of the Christian church of Clarksburg, this county, organized in 1846. Aunt Nancy died in her home just north of her church June 2, 1900, aged 96 years, 1 month and 9 days. Full of years Aunt Nancy was an industrious woman, a positive woman, not uncertain in anything, always giving a reason for the faith in her in all things. She was an ardent Democrat, and during the trying times between 1861 and 1865, Uncle Charlie and Aunt Nancy had their political views often questioned, and by some considered not loyal to the northern views of said cause, but amid it all they came out with the love and respect of all, and doubtless both are in glory, redeemed and saved from all that mars happiness. She leaves one son, Wm. H. Dungan, who resides in the old home, awaiting the time when he is called to meet Uncle Charlie and Aunt Nancy. On the afternoon of June 4th her body was put in the grave beside the dust of her husband in the Nolin graveyard (in sight of her home of years) to await the first resurrection. The funeral sermon of Aunt Nancy will in the near future, be preached in the Christian church in Rocklane. Her son will give due notice in the county papers so her many friends can attend.
