BENJAMIN DRAPER
–––––
Dies at Home in Whiteland Aged
Ninety-four Years.
Benjamin Draper, probably the oldest citizen in Pleasant township, died at his home in Whiteland, Saturday morning. Deceased had been in ill health for some time but until a few days ago gave no evidence that his death was near. He was a man who seemed to live for the good of his fellow man and his acquaintance was wide and favorable.
Mr. Draper was born in Dearborn county, July 2nd, 1818, where he grew to manhood on a farm. He came to this county in 1840, a single man and engaged in agricultural pursuits in Clark township. A year later he removed to Pleasant township where he followed farming for three years. In the fall of 1844 he returned to his native county. Returning here in the spring of 1858, moving in to his house in March.
Mr. Draper was a great fisherman. He had three fish ponds on his farm, which he had well stocked with different varieties.
He was married October 4th, 1841, to Miss Elizabeth Wheeler, who died August 16th, 1887. To them were born thirteen children.
Mr. Draper in politics was formerly a Whig, but since 1856, he had been an ardent republican. He cast his first republican vote for William Henry Harrison.
