Death of Dr. J. H. Donnell.
Dr. J. H. Donnell, one of Franklin’s pioneer citizens and foremost physicians, died at his home in this city at two o’clock last Monday morning. He had been confined to his room for some time on account of a paralytic stroke received some time ago and his death was not entirely unexpected. The funeral occurred on Wednesday afternoon from the Presbyterian Church and was largely attended by friends and relatives; services being conducted by Rev. L. P. Marshall, assisted by Revs. S. E. Wishard, of Ogden, Utah, and E. S. Gardiner of the Baptist church.
Dr. Donnell was born July 8, 1818 in Nicholas Co. Ky., where the first years of his life were passed. When three years of age, his parents removed to Decatur County, Ind. where he remained until his early manhood. He located in Franklin in 1841 where he has resided continuously, with the exception of a few years spent on his farm near Hopewell.
On Sept. 1, 1852 he was married to Elizabeth Herriot, whose death occurred Dec. 21, 1886. Seven sons and one daughter were born to them of whom only three sons and the daughter survive; these being Dr. T. C.; Jesse and Charles of this city, and Mrs. W. N. Burt of Pittsburgh, Pa.
