WAVERLY, May 20—Mrs. Mary E. Dolan, widow of Levi Dolan and one of the pioneer women of this community, died late Monday afternoon following an illness of the past three weeks, during which time her condition had gradually grown more critical. Until a paralytic stroke was suffered three weeks ago Mrs. Dolan had been enjoying her usual good health and had been very active for a person of ninety-four years. Death resulted from a cerebral hemorrhage.

Although nearing the century mark Mrs. Dolan had retained her interest in the events of the day and the community in which all but a few years of her life had been spent. She was a storehouse of knowledge of the early days of Johnson county and of the county during Civil war days as well as of information concerning later years, and took a great deal delight in recalling events of her early life.

Mrs. Dolan was born on April 30, 1836, in White River township, near the present town of Bargersville and was one of a family of nine children born to Jacob and Abigail Doty Sutton, who were among the first residents of this community. Following the close of the Civil war she was united in marriage to Levi Dolan, who had been one of the first volunteers from this county and had served with Sherman on the famous march to the sea.

Lived near Whiteland

For a short time after their marriage they had resided near Whiteland, returning to this community to spend the remaining years of their lives on their farm. The death of Mr. Dolan occurred about twenty years ago and since that time Mrs. Dolan had remained on the home farm where during later years she had been cared for by her son, Charles Dolan.

She is survived by two sons, Herman Dolan and Charles Dolan, by seven grandchildren and by eight great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Elmer Deer passed away seven years ago.

Also surviving are a great number of friends in Johnson, Marion and Morgan counties. Funeral services will be held from the residence Wednesday morning at 10:30 o’clock with the Rev. Galbreath, pastor of the Waverly Methodist church, in charge. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in White River township. Mrs. Dolan had been an active and valued member of the Waverly Methodist church for many years.
