For the Democrat.

Obituary.

Mrs. Eveline Trout Devore born in Wayne County, West Virginia, June 1st, 1833. Of her childhood and early youth nothing is known to me. In 1846, her father, Mr. Trout, removed to Johnson County, Ind. She was married to Thomas Devore August 6th, 1849, by Rev. E. J. Todd (father of the writer) which she remained his true and faithful wife until separated by death. She made profession of her faith in Christ and united with the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian church in 1855, where she remained until her death. She was the mother of twelve children, eight of whom are dead; seven passed away in early childhood, one, James Devore, passed away just four months before her funeral took place. Sister Devore leaves a husband, three sons, one daughter, two sisters and two brothers to mourn the loss of a true Christian wife, mother and sister. Sister Devore lived a devoted Christian life, always ready to speak a kind word to everyone around her, although death came to her with a very short warning, it found her faithful unto the end. When the soul had taken its flight to its long resting place with Jesus and many loved ones gone before to welcome her coming the same Christian smile was left on that loved one’s face.

One by one our houses are made vacant; one by one our heavenly home is made greater. Dear father, sons and daughters may we think often of the kind words which this dear mother spoke to us while on earth. You can never go to her for any more instruction. You can go to Jesus as she went to Him in all her troubles. She can never come to you again but you can go to her. “Cast your cares on Him for He careth for you.” She departed this life Nov. 17, 1889, aged 56 years, 5 months 16 days. Her funeral was preached by Rev. U. L. Montgomery at Shiloh.

In the death of Sister Eveline Devore, we, as a church and Sunday school, have lost a faithful sister and we deeply sympathize with her afflicted family, and by this dispensation of our Father in heaven feel called upon to heed the admonition, “Be ye also ready.”
