Last Monday afternoon while Andrew Brown and George Curry were driving stakes, the maul flew off the handle and hit Curry on the head. After walking some distance Curry got in a wagon and was taken home. In about two hours after the accident he became unconscious, in which condition he has remained ever since. The skull is not fractured, but his comatose condition is due to blood clotting on the brain. He is not expected to live.

CORONER’S VERDICT

––––––––

STATE OF INDIANA,
  Johnson County,
}ss

The undersigned coroner of Johnson county, Indiana, did on the 8th day of April, 1898, hold an inquest on the body of George W. Curry, late of said county, found dead at Franklin, Indiana, on the 8th day of April, 1898.

Having viewed the body and heard the testimony of witnesses, I find that the deceased came to his death by reason of cerebral hemorrhage as the result of a blow on the side of his head by a maul leaving the handle, held in the hands of Andy J. Brown, while in the act of driving a stake or post in the ground. I also find the act resulting in the homicide was unintentional and unavoidable on the part of the said Andy Brown.

Deceased was 61 years old.

J. T. JONES,
Coroner of Johnson County.

Franklin, Ind., April 9, 1898.
