      Sylvester Richard Coy, 
75, died Oct. 17, 2002, at 
Onslow Memorial Hospital 
in Jacksonville, N.C.  He 
was a resident of Richlands, 
N.C.
      He was born April 28, 
1927, in Edinburgh.  His par-
ents were James and Maude 
(Coy) Coy.  He married Bettye 
(Williams) Coy.  She preceded 
him in death Jan. 17, 1985.  
Survivors include a daughter, 
Carolyn Davis of Lakeland, 
Fla.; three grandchildren; 
and several nieces and nephews.  
He was preceded in death by 
two brothers, Norman and Ray-
mond Coy; and four sisters, 
Alvania Lucas, Cecil Titsworth, 
Hazel Brown and Freta Bills.
      He was previously employed 
by Amos Plastics in Edinburgh 
and by Camp Atterbury as a 
guard.
      He attended Carpenter's 
Home Church in Lakeland, Fla.  
He was a member of the Amer-
ican Legion in Lakeland, Fla., 
and Edinburgh American Legion 
Post 233.
      He was a U.S. Navy vet-
eran of World War II, the 
Korean War and the Vietnam 
War, serving from Jan. 17, 
1945, to June 1, 1966.  He 
earned the German Occupation 
Ribbon, American Area Ribbon, 
European-African Middle East-
ern Area Ribbon and the World 
War II Victory Ribbon.
      The Rev. Doug Wright 
conducted a graveside service 
Nov. 26 at Rest Haven Cemetery 
in Edinburgh.  Edinburgh Amer-
ican Legion and the Veterans 
of Foreign Wars conducted mili-
tary graveside rites.  Arrange-
ments were handled by Eskew-
Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh.

      EDINBURGH  — Sylvester 
Coy, 75, of Richlands, N.C., 
died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, 
at Onslow Memorial Hospital 
in Jacksonville, N.C.
      He served in the U.S. 
Navy from 1947 to 1966.  He 
previously worked at Amos 
Plastics in Edinburgh and 
had worked as a guard at 
Camp Atterbury.
      He attended Carpenters 
Home Church in Lakeland, Fla., 
and was a member of American 
Legion in Lakeland and Edin-
burgh.
      The graveside service 
will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday 
at Rest Haven Cemetery in 
Edinburgh, with the Rev. 
Doug Wright officiating.  
Military rites will be con-
ducted by Edinburgh American 
Legion and Veterans of For-
eign Wars.
      Eskew-Eaton Funeral 
Home made the arrangements.
      Born in Edinburgh April 
28, 1927, he was the son of 
James and Maude Coy Coy.  
He married Bettye Williams 
in 1955.
      He is survived by a 
daughter, Carolyn Davis of 
Lakeland; and three grand-
children.
      He was preceded in 
death by his parents; his
