For Prominent Farmer

John W. Coy, age 79, died at his home in the Community neighborhood, Saturday afternoon at 4:20 o’ clock after a serious illness of two weeks.
Funeral services will be held at the Vandivier Mortuary Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. H. G. Rowe, pastor of the Community Congregational Church, conducting the rites. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the mortuary Monday evening from 7 to 9 o’clock and any time Tuesday until the funeral.
He was born the son of Matthew and Rebecca Poe Coy in Bartholomew County on July 25, 1867. Mr. Coy lived in that county until 38 years ago, when with his family he moved to Johnson County.
On September 11, 1890, he was united in marriage to Lydia Walters and eight children were born to this union. Mrs. Coy died November 10, 1946 and three of the children, Hattie May Fitzpatrick, Naomi Ethlyne Coy and Louis H. Coy also preceded their father in death.
The surviving children are: Mrs. Fred Parsley, Mrs. Calvin Dragoo, of Franklin; Elba Coy, Whiteland; Hugh Coy, of Fairland and Oliver Coy, of Needham.
One sister, Mrs. L.A. Wirey, of Franklin, and one brother, Ira Coy, of Edinburg, remain with 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Mr. Coy was a prominent farmer and has served as Johnson County Commissioner for several years. He was a member of the Community church.
