Gordon Leo Conrad
COLUMBUS— Gordon Leo Conrad, 72, of Columbus went to be with God at 10:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at Kindred Hospital in Greenwood.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myers-Reed Dignity Memorial Chapel on 25th Street with the Rev. Dennis Aud officiating. Calling will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family through the funeral home.
Gordon was born in Bartholomew County, Oct. 9, 1934, the son of Thorns and Gladys Snapp Conrad. He was an active church member before his illness. He was employed by Kroot Corporation and Golden Foundry.
He lived on Ohio Street in Columbus as a child, then later moved to Brown County and was raised on his parents’ farm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising animals. He later moved back to Columbus where he enjoyed singing, karaoke, riding his bicycle and spending time with his friends. Everyone liked Gordon. He never knew a stranger.
In 1958, he married Verna Jean Kaicy, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Debbie Sharp of Columbus, Caroline (Christian) Jensen of Michigan, Joedy Conrad of Logansport and Robert L. Conrad; a brother, Russell Hashman of California; grandchildren, Adam and Debbie Lynn Sharp, Jeff Whaley, Zoey Jensen, John and Joseph Conrad, Matthew and Brandy Martin, Robert Conrad Jr., Heidi, Tabitha and Leroy Conrad; great-grandchildren, Keith Morrison, Kasia and Adam Sharp Jr.; nieces, Barbara Hamm and Susan Jackson; and a nephew, Dennis Scrogham.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Leroy Paul Conrad; a grandson, Keith Sharp; sisters, Emma Hill, Violet Meek and Rosemary DeHart; and brothers, William, Howard, Kenneth, Keith and Hubert Hashman.
