Roscoe J. ’Possum’ Compton Roscoe J. "Possum" Compton, 75, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at his residence in Franklin. He was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Johnson County. His parents were Roscoe H. and Bonnie (Barker) Compton. He married Pauline Johnson on Dec. 29, 1980. She preceded him in death Oct. 6, 1999. Survivors include a son, Tom R. Compton of Franklin; five daughters, Phyllis Lewis of Whiteland, Dianne Pfennig of Indianapolis and Mary Jo Reed, Connie Grider and Barbara Whetstine, all of Franklin; a brother, John Compton of Columbus; a sister, Laura Van Vleet of Franklin; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. He was employed by Far West Construction as a construction worker, retiring in 1987. The Rev. Anthony Volz will conduct a service at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Far West Construction retiree Roscoe J. Compton Franklin EDINBURGH -- Roscoe J. "Possum" Compton, 75, of Franklin died at 9:40 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at his home. He retired in 1987 from Far West Construction Co. Funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home with the Rev. Anthony Volz officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery. Mr. Compton was born in Johnson County Dec. 29, 1924, the son of Roscoe H. and Bonnie Barker Compton.
