Obituary.
James T. Cloud, who died in this place on Tuesday, Jan. 28th, was perhaps the oldest native born “Hoosier” in the county and perhaps the state. He was born in Dearborn county, Oct. 20, 1810, and having never lived outside the borders of the state during all that time. He was united in marriage to Miss Laura Tebbs in 1833, with whom he lived happily until her death which occurred Sept. 17th, 1877. Unto this union six children came to bless them, and in his declining years only two were left to comfort the father as time with his relentless scythe cast the shadow of coming death before. In religion, Mr. Cloud was of the old school Baptist, and during his last years was deprived of the privilege of attending divine worship on account of his defective hearing and other infirmities of age. Politically, he was a staunch democrat of the old reliable Jacksonian type, and his convictions he never failed to express where he thought he was right, and often has he told the writer of this of the methods and changes between the old times and new. His last sickness was borne by him without a murmur and he fell asleep hoping and trusting in that divine being who doeth all things well. His funeral services were conducted by Rev. Conner, and his remains were laid in our beautiful cemetery, there to await the final call.
