BERNICE MAE CHAPMAN
Bernice Mae Chapman, 75, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in Martinsville. She was a resident of Morgantown.
She was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Martinsville. Her parents were William Coda and Grace Mae (Daggy) Baker. She married Lester C. Chapman on May 3, 1947, in Louisville, Ky. He survives. Other survivors include three sons, Larry Chapman of Trafalgar, Steven Chapman of Martinsville and Rickey Chapman of Morgantown; a daughter, Shirley Zupancic of Morgantown; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karla L. Chapman, in 1958; four brothers, Forrest, George, Thurman and Wallace Baker; and three sisters, Venus Hacker, Lola Cooper and Louise Evans.
She was a 1941 graduate of Martinsville High School.
She had been employed at Newberry’s and the Hosiery Mill in Martinsville and at Stewart Warner and Continental Optical in Indianapolis.
She was a member of General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in Morgantown.
Brother Tom Nation will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Neal and Summers Mortuary in Martinsville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Martinsville. A luncheon will follow at General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in Morgantown.
