Thomas William Chandler, 69, a Franklin resident 50 years, died Saturday morning at his home. He had been in failing health since January.
Born Feb. 28, 1917, in Edinburgh, he was the son of Lora and Clemmie (Hedger) Chandler. He married Opal (Graham) Chandler July 24, 1936. She survives.
He attended Edinburgh schools and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
A welder, he worked 25 years at Penn Central Railroad, retiring in 1971.
He was a member of American Legion Post 205 in Franklin and Transport Workers Union.
A service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin, with the Rev. Cecil Parkhurst officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Franklin.
Surviving with his wife are his stepmother, Mary L. Chandler of Edinburgh; two daughters, Nancy Perdue, Indianapolis, and Phyllis Huckelby, Huntingburg; three sons, Ronnie Chandler, Gary Chandler and Joseph Chandler, all of Franklin; 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one sister, Alma Parkan, Bloomington; four half sisters, Donna Brewster, Emilie Passifume and Pauline Featherstone, all of Edinburgh, and Delores Mullis, Marion, and five half-brothers, Carl Chandler, Robert Chandler, Chester Chandler, Joe Chandler and Pat Chandler, all of Edinburgh.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons, one infant daughter and two brothers.
