Claude M. Chandler
      Claude M. Chandler, 79, a Route 4 
Morgantown resident who was born in 
Brown County, died September 28 at 
Johnson County Hospital.
      He was the father of Mrs. Irvin 
Green of Nashville.
      Chandler was born September 
27, 1897 to Bert and Ella (Milnes) 
Chandler.  He was married to Martha 
Spears, who survives him, on July 
3, 1928, in Franklin.
      Chandler worked as a blacksmith 
for the New York Central Railroad 
for 48 years and was employed 
for four years by the Johnson County 
Highway Department until his retire-
ment in 1966.
      A member of the Samaria Christian 
Church, he was active in the Oriental 
Masonic Lodge 500 F and A.M. for 
56 years.
      Besides his widow and his daughter, 
Chandler is survived by a son, Gary W. 
Chandler, Trafalgar, and three sisters, 
Mrs. Lucille Johnson, Mrs. Ethel Imel, 
and Mrs. Florence Krechting, all of 
Indianapolis.  He is also survived by nine 
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
      Services were October 2 at the Myers-
Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown, 
the Reverend Ora Davis presiding.
      Burial was at Washington Park 
Cemetery in Indianapolis.
