––––
Samuel Casselman, the well-known barber, age fifty-seven years, died suddenly Saturday evening at 5:20 o’clock. He had been apparently in his usual health until just before his death. For many years he was associated with John Pettiford. He was a highly respected colored citizen, and his long residence in Franklin had made him well known throughout the county. Funeral services took place Monday afternoon, conducted by Elder Townsend of Indianapolis.
Note: The Johnson County Indiana WPA Death Index, 1882–1920, page 33, referencing Book H-18, page 6, records that Samuel Casslman [sic], a fifty-seven-year-old colored male, died 30 Nov 1896 in Franklin.
