Brown County native Orville A. Carmichael died Thursday, November 28, 1996, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

A resident of the Franklin United Methodist Home in Johnson County, he was 89.

Mr. Carmichael was born November 9, 1907, in Brown County to Charles W. and Clora Aynes Carmichael.

He and Arlie V. Pruitt were married October 16, 1930. She died May 24, 1989. He then married Irene Taylor Rutan January 10, 1990. She survives.

He was graduated from Garrett Seminary and Northwestern University.

Mr. Carmichael was a retired minister, serving churches in Bartholomew County. He was awarded several church honors.

He had also taught school in Brown County as well as in Bartholomew County.

During the 1940s and 1950s, Mr. Carmichael had worked at Noblitt-Sparks in Bartholomew County.

Mr. Carmichael was a member and past master of the Alert Mason­ic Lodge. He was a member and for­mer sachem of the Grammer Red Man Lodge.

Mr. Carmichael was a member and former chaplain for the Scottish Rite, and former president of the Bartholomew County Conservation Club.

A former Boy Scout master, he was active in the Optimist Club and Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Carmichael had also served as pres­ident of the United Methodist Home’s council.

Other survivors include a son, Don E. Carmichael of North Ver­non; a step-son, Morris Milnes of Bourbonnais, Illinois; a brother, Lloyd Carmichael of Columbus; three grandchildren, Kathryn Shadday, Mary Beth Colgan, and Tim Carmichael; two step-grand­children, Eddie Milnes and Lynn Milnes; six great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild.

The Reverend John Cheeseman and Reverend Morris McClintic led a service Monday, December 2, at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home in Columbus.

Burial was in Van Buren Township’s Christiansburg Cemetery.
