MARTHA E. BURTON
Martha E. Burton, 88, of 2851 McKinley, Columbus, died at her home at 7:30 p.m. last Wednesday after a lengthy illness.
She was a member of Apostolic United Pentecostal Church and for many years she and her husband, the late David G. Burton, owned and operated a vegetable market in the Columbus area. She also made and sold cemetery wreaths many years.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Charles Kelley at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home. Burial was at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Mrs. Burton was born in Adair County, Ky., Nov. 12, 1891 to Ben and Sarah Jane Burton. She was married to Burton Aug. 18, 1907 and he died Nov. 2, 1975.
Survivors include a son, Joe Burton, of Edinburg; four daughters, Mrs. Gordon Burton of 151 Jones, Mrs. Leonard Caldwell of 2011 McKinley, Irene Wilson of Triangle Trailer Court and Mrs. Ernest Roberts of Nashville route 4; a brother, Jim Burton of 2851 McKinley; a sister, Charity Burton of Indianapolis; two half-sisters, Lorene Stuart and Lou Farris of Edinburg; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Benny and Wilmer Burton; and two daughters, Ruth Sandfur and Marie Burton.
