FRANKLIN
LEONA MAE BURTON
Leona Mae Burton of Franklin gracefully entered into Heaven on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014.
She was born to Paul Albert Sr. and Ellanor Louise (McCaslin) Sievertson on Nov. 21, 1936, in Indianapolis. She had three siblings: one sister, Eloise (Jon) Taylor of Greenwood, and two brothers, J. David (Rita) Sievertson of Franklin and Jon Sievertson of Calvert City, Ky.
Leona was a graduate of Franklin Community High School in 1955.
She was united in marriage to Lester Burton on July 26, 1959, at Pilgrim Holiness Church in Edinburgh. He survives.
She was blessed with two children, Fred (Darcy) Burton of Indianapolis and Leslie (David) Hash of Franklin. Leona was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren, Erin and Lexi Burton, and Meagan and Jacob Hash. Nieces include Marcy (Norman) Wachstetter of Illinois, Sally Louise (Steve) Hood of Kentucky, Jonda Lyn (Ronnie) Cox of Kentucky and Tina Rene (Carlton) Cutsinger of Kentucky; nephews, Paul Albert Sievertson III of Kentucky, JD (Nicola) Sieverston of California, Jeff (Amanda) Sieverston of Franklin and Jon Marc (Jenny) Taylor of Greenwood.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents; two infant sons, Marcus and Thomas; a brother, Paul Albert Sievertson Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Betty Sievertson.
Leona started working at Union Bank as bookkeeper right out of high school and worked her way to manager of conversions and a vice president for Bank One.
She enjoyed flowers, musicals and her friends, along with being a wife, mother and grandma.
Because her life reflected her faith in Jesus Christ, God used her to tell of his love and his grace to whoever would listen, from fellow workers to friends to nurses she met at the hospital or nursing home. She was a longtime member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Franklin, where she was an elder, a deacon, a member in the choir and a member of Fortnightly Club. She also served as a Job’s daughter.
We know if she could tell anyone that loved her, that her wish for each of them would be to give your life to Christ, so she will see you again.
A celebration of Leona’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 548 W. County Road 100N (just off State Road 144), west of Franklin. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St., Franklin. Leona Mae will be laid to rest at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
