OBITUARY.

After a brief illness, Mrs. Jane Burgett died at her home in Nineveh Monday morning March 28. Appropriate funeral services were held in the M. E. church, of which deceased was for many years a member, Wednesday March 30th. Her husband, O. P. Burgett, Jr., one brother, Oliver Hibbs of Nineveh, and two sisters, Mrs. Eveline Wright of Nineveh and Angeline Jenkins of Grinnell, Iowa survive her.

Deceased was a daughter of Jeremiah and Hannah Hibbs and was born Oct. 1, 1841. Her girlhood was passed at her father’s home, and her sterling worth and womanly character made her justly popular among her circle of friends.

June 3, 1866, she was united in marriage to O. P. Burgett, Jr., then a young man but recently returned from the Civil War where he had served his country with much honor. Their relations as husband and wife were of the most pleasant character and the entire community unite in extending profound and heartfelt sympathy to the stricken husband.

But not only in her home was her kind influence felt. Not like many who have an abundance of this world’s goods did she harden her heart against those in less fortunate circumstances, she was the friend of the poor, succoring them in their necessity and administering to their wants with a lavish hand. While she had no children of her own, the children of others rise up and call her blessed. Her mind was serene, her soul sincere, her charities broad; the charity that is not puffed up and doth not behave itself unseemly was hers; she was a loving wife, a faithful friend, a wise councilor, and a consistent Christian. The whole community deeply feels her loss.
