Brown County native Ernest Ray “Ernie” Brownfield died Sunday, March 23, 1997, at his home in Trafalgar. He was 83.
Mr. Brownfield was born September 4, 1913, in Brown County to James Perry and Mary Ann Scroghams Brownfield.
He and Mary Elizabeth McQuinn were married April 21, 1940, in Taylorsville. She survives.
Mr. Brownfield had worked as a machinist for Schwitzer Corporation in Indianapolis for 41 years, retiring in 1976.
He was a member of New Hope Christian Church.
Mr. Brownfield was an honorary member of the Martinsville Country Club and the Hole In One Club in Martinsville.
Other survivors include two sons, Dennis Ray Brownfield and Michael David Brownfield, both of Trafalgar; a daughter, Patricia Kay Delk of Greenwood; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and four sisters.
The Reverend Steve Fair will lead a service today, March 26, at 10:30 a.m. in the Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin.
Burial was in Johnson County’s Nineveh Cemetery.
