Notes: The Johnson County Indiana WPA Death Index, 1882–1920, page 24, referencing Book H-16, page 23, records that Margarett [sic] F. Brown, a 40 year old white female, died 1 Mar 1891 in Franklin.
The 1880 US Federal Census for Franklin Township, Johnson County Indiana records forty-seven-year-old, Indiana-born farmer John M. Brown, his twenty-nine-year-old, Kentucky-born second wife Margaret F Brown, John’s Indiana-born daughters from his first marriage, twenty-year-old Emma C. and eighteen-year-old Sarah, and John and Margaret’s Indiana-born daughters, four-year-old Ester and 10-month-old Elizabeth.
John M. Brown applied for his Civil War Pension (based on his service in Co. F 5th Indiana Cavalry) as an invalid on 29 Sep 1887 (Certificate No. 453916). His wife Fannie M. Brown applied for a widow’s pension on 2 Jul 1890 (Certificate No. 640304). Their daughter, Elizabeth (Brown) Hiland applied for a minor’s pension on 11 Apr 1908 (Application No.889136). She apparently didn’t get one as there is no Certificate Number recorded.
