Charles Bronson died suddenly at his home just west of town Sunday morning at 5:30 o’clock. He was taken ill a few weeks ago but soon recovered sufficiently to lead his friends to believe there was no immediate danger. On Saturday he had taken a ride with his daughter, Mrs. Ben Jacobs, and in the evening told his family he was feeling better than for some time. On Sunday morning at five o’clock he was discovered to be breathing heavily and before any medical aid could be secured he expired.
Mr. Bronson was born in Ohio in 1825. Being deaf and dumb, he was sent to the Institute for deaf and dumb at Columbus, Ohio, where he received a good education. In 1857 he went to Tennessee where he married Miss Catharine Jones of Cotsville, to which union were born seven children, all of whom are living. These are Mrs. Ben Jacobs, Mrs. Geo. Tukler, Mrs. Dr. Sellers, Mrs. Geo. Ransdell, Mrs. Sarah Utter, Silas Bronson and Bessie Bronson. His first wife died Dec. 29, 1875. He was married the second time Jan. 9, 1877, to Miss Sarah Willhartz who, with one daughter, Miss Lottie still survives. Mr. Bronson became a resident of Johnson county in 1869. A brother, Geo. W. Bronson, resides at Morgantown, and a sister, Mrs. Edmunds, in Needham township. He leaves considerable property. The funeral occurred at his late residence Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock, conducted by Rev. C. W. Lee, of the Methodist church, and Elder Atwater, of the Christian church.
