Margaret S. Bowman, 89, a resident at Franklin United Methodist Home since September 1977, died Monday afternoon at Johnson County Memorial Hospital in Franklin, following an extended illness.
Born in Bartholomew County, July 16, 1898, she was the daughter of Charles F. and Margaret S. (Smythe) Crump.
She graduated from Columbus High School. She married Wallace S. Bowman April 26, 1920, in Bartholomew County. He preceded her in death Jan. 8, 1970.
Mrs. Bowman moved to Franklin in 1926. She and her husband co-owned and operated Benzol Cleaners in Franklin from 1926 to 1953, when they retired.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Order of Eastern Star chapter 439, both in Franklin, avid Lincoln chapter Daughters of the Union. She also belonged to American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was an honorary member at Hillview Country Club.
A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wright Memorial Chapel at the Methodist Home, with the Rev. Robert Fair officiating. Friends may call in the Memory Room at the Methodist Home from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Franklin. Vandivier-Parsley Funeral Home, Franklin, is handling arrange- ments.
She is survived by two nieces, Patty L. Gwinnup, Greenwood, and Joan Weinantz, Columbus; and one nephew, Charles D. Giddens, Indianapolis.
One sister, Louise Sims, also preceded her in death.
