Rites Are Set For
Retired Teacher
EDINBURG, Aug. 23.—Miss Elva Bowman, widely known, retired Edinburg school teacher, died at the Johnson County Memorial Hospital at 4 p.m., Wednesday. She had been ill since April.
Funeral rites will be held from the Edinburg Christian Church at 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev. C. E. Rhodes will conduct the rites and burial will be made in Rest Haven Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mutz Funeral Home until 1 p.m. Friday when she will be taken to the church.
Attended Universities
The daughter of William and Ida Drybread Bowman, she was born in Bartholomew County May 23, 1886. She graduated from the Madison High School and Franklin College and later attended Butler University and Chicago University.
After teaching history and Latin in the Edinburg High School for 39 years, she retired in 1952. She was a member of the Edinburg Christian Church, where she served as organist for 30 years; the William Donaldson Chapter, D.A.R.; Tri Kappa Sorority; Business and Professional Women's Club; taught the Loyal Workers class of the Christian Church, and was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship.
Surviving is a sister, Miss Mary Bowman of Edinburg. A brother, James Luther Bowman, preceded her in death.
