Charles Blanford Sr.
Charles Blanford Sr., 77, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin.
He was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Woodstock, Minn. His parents were John Earl and Mary Magdalene (Green) Blanford. He married Dorothy "Dot" (Olmstead) Blanford on Feb. 21, 1948. She preceded him in death Dec. 9, 2001. Survivors include a son, Tony Blanford of Indianapolis; three daughters, Jody Tobin and Linda Suttles, both of Franklin, and Brenda Adams of Shelburn; a sister, Agnes Johnson of Columbus; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Sydney Blanford Jr.; four brothers, Joseph, Carl, Bill and Tommy Blanford; a sister, Ethel Coy; and a grandson, Kevis Adams.
He was employed by Cummins Engine Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1987. He was formerly employed by the Daily Journal and Long John Silver's, both in Franklin.
He was a former member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
The Rev. Todd Goodson will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 845 Eighth St. in Columbus. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Barkes, Inlow & Weaver Funeral Home, 1029 Washington St. in Columbus, with a prayer service at 7:45 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus, with military graveside rites by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
