Death of Mrs. J. R. Bice.

Mrs. J. R. Bice, of this city, died at St. Joseph’s Infirmary in Louisville, Ky., where she had gone for medical treatment, on Thursday afternoon of last week.

Mrs. Bice had been in poor health for a long time suffering from a large water tumor. She underwent a difficult surgical operation on Wednesday at the hands of Drs. Walthen, Orendorf and Holloway, of Louisville. The sac forming the tumor had grown fast to the walls of the cavity and the intestines in many places and its removal was consequently very difficult, but it was thought to have been successfully performed as the patient gave signs of rapid improvement until Thursday about noon, when she began to grow rapidly worse and passed quietly away at 3:20 o’clock of the same afternoon.

Mrs. Bice, together with her husband, has long been a resident of this city and was highly respected and widely known and the announcement of her death was painful intelligence to her friends. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and took a deep interest in church affairs.

The remains were brought to this city on Friday evening and the funeral took place on Saturday afternoon from the Presbyterian church, the services being conducted by the pastor, Rev. L. P. Marshall, after which the remains were interred in the Greenlawn cemetery.
