Aura Milton Bennett, Victim of
Influenza, Dies at His Home
in Branton, N.Y.
––––––––
Aura Milton Bennett, son of Jesse and Anna Bennett, died at the home of his parents in Branton, NY, Saturday, Nov. 16, 1918, following a brief illness of one week and two days of influenza from which pneumonia developed.
Mr. Bennett was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Bennett and was born on the Barnhizer place near Hurricane in the year of 1894, and died at the age of 24 years and two months. His entire boyhood days were spent in and near Whiteland where he made many warm friends. At the age of sixteen, he united with the Whiteland Presbyterian church of which he remained a faithful member.
Four years ago he moved, with his parents, to Branton, New York, where he became foreman over a department in a vegetable canning plant, which position he held until he became a victim of the influenza, from which his death resulted. Mr. Bennett was a splendid young man of sterling qualities and leaves a large circle of friends who mourn his untimely death.
Besides his parents and numerous friends, Mr. Bennett is also survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Vest of Whiteland.
The body arrived in Whiteland at four o’clock Sunday afternoon and was taken to the home of the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Vest, where funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o’clock. A large number of friends were present to view the remains and to pay a silent tribute to one whom they honored and loved. The services were in charge of Rev. James. G. Hixon, pastor of the Whiteland Methodist church. Several beautiful selections were sung by a quartet composed of Mrs. Ethelya Phipps, Miss Lillian Tracy, Edward Eccles and Dr. D. L. Phipps. The Casket bearers were all members of the Red Men lodge, of which order Mr. Bennett was a member, and were Al Perkins, James Perry, Amber Scott, Everett Scott, Job Parkhurst, and Ed Chasteen. After the services the body was taken to Franklin where interment was made in the Greenlawn cemetery.
