Death of Mrs. Beard.

Mary J. Beard, age 76 years, died Friday evening at 5 o’clock at her home on Yandes street. For a long time her health had been poor. A few days be­fore her death she was compelled to take to her bed and soon lapsed into a state of unconsciousness from which she never revived

Short services were held Monday moning at the residence, conducted by Rev. J. K. Knowlton, after which the remains were taken to Second Mt. Pleasant, where funeral services were held, conducted by Rev. P. O. Duncan. Burial at Second Mt. Pleasant grave­yard.

Deceased was the daughter of Ephriam and Winifred Tucker, and was born in Preble county, Ohio. With her parents, at the age of fifteen years, she came to Shelby county, Ind., in 1837, where she resided until her marriage with Wm. Beard, July 18, 1839, when she moved to Clark township, Johnson county, taking up their residence upon eighty acres of land that had been entered by her father, and at the time of Mr. Beard’s death, July 15, 1867, they possessed over 1,400 acres of the fine farm lands of Needham and Clark townships. Mrs. Beard continued to reside on the home farm for about sev­en years when she moved to Franklin.

Deceased was the mother of the following children who lived to mature years: John, Jesse, Oliver, Mrs. Angle Webb, Jennie, James, Mrs. F. M. Hunt, Ida and Mrs. Mattie Atwood. Of these John, Jennie, James and Ida Beard are deceased.

The funeral services of the late Mrs. Mary Beard were held here Monday and were conducted by Revs. Duncan and Knowlton and Prof. Hall. They were largely attended.
