Mrs. William H. Beard died Saturday a few minutes after twelve o’clock noon at her home north of Needham after a brief illness. Death was due to fatty degeneration of the heart. A husband and five children survive, one of whom is married. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at four o’clock at Second Mt. Pleasant church.

Indiana, Death Certificates, 1899–2011, Nineveh Township, Johnson County, Certificate and Record of Death, page 12 records that Mary Ann Beard died at about 12 o’clock –m. on 18 Aug 1900 in Needham Township from heart disease of three days' duration, aged forty-three years, no months and eighteen days, born in Indiana. She was female, white, married and a housekeeper. Her father’s name was John Bowers and her mother’s maiden name Julia Suttler, both born in Indiana. Mary Ann was buried in 2nd Mt. Pleasant on 19 Aug 1900, E. G. Barnhizer, undertaker.
