Mrs. Ella Mae Coy Batton, 75 years of age, a life-long resident of Johnson county, died Saturday evening at 5 o’clock at her home, three and one-half miles south of Franklin on rural route three. She had been ill only a short time.
Funeral services will be held at 11 o’clock Tuesday morning at the Christian church. The Rev. Glenn O. Mills, pastor of the Edinburg Christian church will officiate. Burial will be made in Greenlawn cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the home at any time.
Mrs. Batton, mother of 10 children, was a member of the Amity Baptist church. She married William T. Batton on December 13, 1886, the couple celebrating their golden wedding anniversary in 1936.
Besides the husband, survivors are seven daughters, Mrs. Ida Pierce of Indianapolis, Mrs. Esta Coffman of Franklin, Mrs. May Oaks of near Edinburg, Mrs. Mabel Long of New Castle, Mrs. Carrie Bates of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Catherine Kern of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Edith Hoskins who lives with her parents.
Also three sons, Sam J. Batton of Franklin, William Batton of Shelbyville and Henry Batton, who also lives at home; 22 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Mrs. Batton was born March 2, 1867, and was the daughter of Joseph Coy and Mary Ann Kinney Coy.
