DEATHS.
––––––––––––––––
ELLEN N. BARNETT.
––––
The death of Mrs. Ellen N. Barnett, wife of Squire William H. Barnett, removes one who has been prominently connected with the interests of this county for many years. Her demise occurred in this city Friday, February 5th, after a brief illness of grippe, which affected the brain. Deceased was born in Kentucky in 1818, having reached the ripe old age of seventy-five years, three quarters of a century. She was the daughter of Frederick Ragsdale, one of the pioneer settlers of this county, and the greater part of her life was spend in Hensley township. In 1837, as Miss Ellen N. Ragsdale, she was married to James Forsyth. A few years ago she married Squire Barnett and has since resided in this city. The funeral services were held at First Mt. Pleasant Baptist church, of which she was a devoted member, Saturday, February 6th, Rev. J. Rhodes conducting the services.
Mrs. Barnett is well known throughout the county as “Aunt Ellen Forsyth.” She was a devout and consistent Christian and a host of friends have cause to remember her kindness and generosity. Both her church and Franklin College have been grateful to her for munificent gifts, aggregating many thousands of dollars. Ever a loving wife, a devoted mother to two children whom she adopted, having had no children of her own, and a sympathetic friend to all in need of a friend, she leaves behind the memory of an unselfish life spent in doing acts of kindness and deeds of charity.
