William Barker, Dies Tuesday
William Barker, 82, R. R. 1, Franklin, died Tuesday morning at the Johnson County Memorial Hospital at Franklin.
A Bartholomew County native, Barker had lived in Johnson County since he was a child. He had been seriously ill since August.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Vandivier- Parsley Funeral Home in Franklin and will be in charge of the Rev. John Hancock, of the Hurricane Congregational Church.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Vandivier-Parsley Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
A Johnson County farmer, Mr. Barker had been in failing health for the past three years.
He was born Feb. 16, 1882, in Bartholomew County. His parents were James Shannon Barker and Emily Wells Barker.
He married the late Cora Coffman on March 26, 1901 in Johnson County. His wife died Dec. 4, 1956.
The Barkers had three children. A son, Leonard, died in November, 1958.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Clyde McClain and Mrs. Arthur Brenton, both of Greenwood, and a sister, Mrs. Lennie Redmond, of Whiteland.
Barker had eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM BARKER DIES
Was retired county farmer
FRANKLIN — William Barker, 82, Franklin route 1, died at 10:40 a.m. today at Johnson County Hospital. He was a retired farmer, and had been ill for three years.
Born Feb. 16, 1882, in Bartholomew County, he was the son of James and Emily Wells Barker. His marriage March 26, 1901 was to Cora Coffman, who died Dec. 4, 1956.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Bessie) McClain, and Mrs. Arthur (Gladys) Brenton, both of Greenwood; eight grand-children, 20 great-grandchildren and one sister, Lennie Remond, of Whiteland. A son, Leonard, died in 1958.
Mr. Barker was a member of the Hurricane Congregational Church.
Friends may call at the Vandivier-Parsley funeral home after 2 p.m Wednesday. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. John Hancock in charge. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
