John E. Banta, of Hopewell, died at his home Friday night of cancer of the lower intestines after a short illness. Mr. Banta was well–known throughout Johnson county and was forty eight years old. He was born on the farm on which he died and had never lived outside of the Hopewell neighborhood. In 1870 he was married to Miss Margaret LaGrange. He has for many years been an active member of the Presbyterian church and will be greatly missed by them. He was buried Sunday, the services being conducted by Rev. E. I. Davies, of the Hopewell church. A large number from this city attended the funeral.

John E. Banta died last week on Thursday and was buried in the Hopewell cemetery on last Sunday. He leaves a daughter to mourn his loss.
Doctor Payne’s of Franklin held a postmortem examination on the body of John E. Banta last Saturday. The deceased died from the effect of a cancer of the bowels.
