OBITUARY.
Riley W. Aten was born February 1st, 1856. Died at Franklin, Ind., Sep., 22d, 1881. For many months he had been in failing health and had realized his approaching end, and as it came, he met it like a hero, speaking farewell and comforting words to each of the loved ones of his home. quietly resting on the bosom of Jesus he fell to sleep. He was a young man of excellent habits and a careful student. He earnestly coveted the privileges of those favored with health, which if he had possessed, he would no doubt, have used for the good of society and to his own improvement. For several months prior to his death his mind had been dwelling upon the subject of personal religion. At the Acton camp meeting he sought and obtained an evidence of pardon and acceptance with God. Just before he died he expressed his satisfaction that he had taken that step. and said his way into the “unseen holy” was all clear. His death was a calm as the close of a summer day and as peaceful as the sleep of a child. He was a dutiful and obedient son, a loving brother and the vacancy occasioned by his death will never be filled till is again united in the “glad forever,” where death is unknown and sorrow never comes. Thy son, thy brother, my friend, is not dead, but with God he lives.
