ERVIN 'IKE' ANDERSON
Ervin 'Ike' Anderson, 88, died Wednesday at his residence in Bell Chasse, La. He was a former resident of Shelbyville.
He was born May 12, 1903, in Shelby County. His parents were Robert E. Anderson and Anna May (Cooper) Anderson. Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Ruth Mays of Seattle, Wash., Thelma Lucille Steffey of New Orleans and Lois Kathryn Turner of Oklahoma City; a sister, Minnie Ruth Grubb of Shelbyville; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Anderson, a former resident of Franklin; another son, a daughter, two brothers, a sister and a grandchild.
He was the owner of Ike’s Tavern in Shelbyville during the 1960’s until his retirement in 1973 and of a sale barn in Shelbyville for several years. He also was a farmer and raised and raced harness race horses.
He was a member of Shelby County Farm Bureau.
The Rev. Mark Farnsley will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Ervin 'Ike' Anderson
Ervin 'Ike' Anderson, a longtime resident of Shelby County, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday in Bell Chasse, La.
He was born May 12, 1903 in Shelby County, the son of Robert E. Anderson and Anna May Cooper.
He lived most of his life in Shelby County, working as a farmer and a tavern owner. A member of the Shelby County Farm Bureau, he was the owner of the former Ike's Tavern in the 1960s, until his retirement in 1973. He also owned The Sale Barn on the west side of town and raised and raced harness racing horses.
He is survived by a sister, Ruth 'Minnie' Grubb, of Rt. 6, Shelbyville; three daughters, Virginia Ruth Mays, Seattle, Wash., Thelma Lucille Steffey, New Orleans, La., and Lois Kathryn Turner, Oklahoma City, Okla.; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter, one grandchild, two brothers and a sister.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home. Rev. Mark Farnsley will officiate. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
