Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Richard Yeaton Monday morning at 10:30 at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home in Columbus for Oran K. Abbett, Sr., 61, of Nashville route 2, a native of Edinburgh, who died at 7:30 p.m. at Bartholomew County Hospital after treatment for a self-inflicted wound to the abdomen, according to Dr. Michael Chadwick, Barth. County coroner. He was an employee of Stadler Packing Company in Columbus.
Burial was at Rest Haven Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Steve Weathers, Marshall, Joe, Fred, Mike and Ed Phillips.
Abbett was born at Edinburgh July 24, 1918, to Robert and Beryl Abbett. His wife, Virginia Taulman Abbett, survives. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of South Bethany Christian Church, the American Legion and Odd Fellows Lodge.
Also surviving are two sons, James Abbett and Oran Abbett, Jr., both of Columbus; three daughters, Beverly Morris and Mrs. Jack Gray of Columbus and Mrs. James Wilson of Hawthorne, Fla.; two brothers, Norman Abbett of Indianapolis and Gallian Abbett of Kokomo; and seven grandchildren.
