After a short illness of about one week, Dietrich Ellinghausen, one of Greendale's esteemed citizens, passed away at his home on Ridge avenue, Thursday morning, October 31. He had been in failing health for the past year, but during this time he was always active and few were aware that his health was slowly declining. A short time previous to his death he contracted a cold which developed into pneumonia.

The interests of his family were always nearest and dearest to him and one of the cherished aims of his life was that his children should have a good education. It gave him a great deal of satisfaction in his later years to see this wish fulfilled. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran church of Bellair for half a century.
