About Richmond County
|
Richmond county was formed in 1692 from (Old) Rappahannock County. It was named either for Richmond borough in Surrey, England, or the late seventeenth century duke of Richmond.
The city of Richmond is not part of this county.
The county seat of Richmond County is Warsaw, which has a zip code of 22572. In 1955, Warsaw had a population of 435. Researchers are fortunate to find this very old, eastern Virginia county, unlike many similarly situated counties, has had little in the way of record loss.
