Lewis Thomas, (ca. 1752-1833), a native of Kingston
Parish, Gloucester Co., Thomas served as Lieutenant of the 13th
Va. Reg. Rev. War, from Dec. 19, 1776. This regiment later designated
the 9th Va. commanded by Col. John Gibson. Thomas was in the battles
of Brandywine and Germantown and served to the close of the Rev.
War in 1783, at which time he was a captain and had served in
that capacity for 18 months. He was discharged in 1783 at Winchester,
Va., when the army was disbanded. Retired Jan. 1, 1783, and was
granted 4,000 acres of bounty land, warrant obtained March 11,
1784. He removed to Washington Co., Kentucky, where he spent the
rest of his life.
