Below is a indexed transcription of the extant Personal Property Tax Lists for Amelia County for the year 1766. Users are referred to the introduction to these tax lists, found in the 1765 Personal Property Tax Lists, for an explanation of the lists, terms used, and methodology of creating these indexes from the microfilmed records.

In 1766, the following men produced lists of taxable property in Amelia County:

• JW = John Winn, of Nottoway Parish
• JB = John Booker, of Raleigh (Raleigh) Parish
• AE = Alexander Erskine of Nottoway Parish, "lower part"
• RM = Robert Munford of Nottoway Parish
• TT = Thomas Tabb of Rawleigh Parish

Both John Winn and John Booker evidently produced TWO lists. In John Winn's case, both lists have some names in common, but each list contains names of individuals not found on the other. I've designated those that appear ONLY on the second list as JW2. Winn's handwriting is very difficult to read on the second list, and it may have been a draft or working list.

I have transcribed John Booker's lists in full; there may be duplicate listings as a result.

Thomas Tabb's list is blurred across the top of each page, and some names were obviously present, but obscured and therefore unreadable. So if your ancestor's name was on this list in 1765 and/or 1767 but isn't found in this transcription, that may be the explanation.
