HAYNES
- Jan 1998 - My g-g uncle Melton Haynes moved to Palatka in 1849 from Yalaha FL because of high tensions with local Indians. He was married at Palatka.  He along with his brother Bunberry lived at the Greenfield Plantation.  When the Civil War began Union forces came down from Jacksonville and warned the Haynes unless they were neutral they would have to leave.  Since they were not, they fled. 47th Penn.  Vol. "found the place deserted, reporting that a table with a large meat pie still warm, and other food, had been left by the Confederates, showing their quick depature." I have an original letter written by Bunberry Haynes in 1851 from the Greenfield Plantation at Palatka to his brother-in-law in N.C.  Letter
describes local area. Melton went on to fight with Second Florida Cavalry Company H under Capt John Jackson Dickison whose son Charles Dickison was killed during skirmish at Palatka Aug 3d 1864. I am trying to find out where this plantation was and if anything is left of it.  I am willing to share letter.  Thank you. Downie Granville
